In a case not likely to be cracked by even the world’s greatest detectives. The victim was a 33 year old male of Jewish descent who was apprehended in a park one evening while out with his friends. He was taken away, blindfolded, and brutally beaten beyond recognition, suffering severe head trauma with innumerable contusions, and then whipped until he had multiple deep lacerations across his back. He was then stabbed 3 times, once through each distal extremity, and then stabbed in the lateral chest wall penetrating all the way to the pericardium. He was left for dead on display for his family and friends to see.

Do you recognize the story? Can you identify the victim? It was of course, Jesus, an innocent man who was tortured and then killed by crucifixion for crimes he didn’t commit. The Greatest Mystery of All Time is why the Author of All Things would humble himself to become a character in the story, and not just any character, but the innocent victim who allows himself to be tortured and killed like a common criminal. The Bible says, “he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5)  In other words, the All-Powerful and Holy God suffered and died to pay for the crimes committed by you and me. But why? Why would he do such a thing? It’s not logical! It’s not fair! What could be the motive? Only love. “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him will not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) God loves you and has suffered the unthinkable to show you just how much he loves you. You see this mystery is also a great love story. And now the Author of All Things is handing you the pen. Will you write Him into the rest of your story?
